'My Town' is a lament for the beautiful city of Edinburgh which is being over-run by developers, often against the wishes and best interests of the local population.

Campaigns such as Save Leith Walk and Save Meadowbank are trying to hold the Council and developers to account and provide a focus, encouraging local people to get involved in determining how their community environment can be developed in a sustainable way and be protected for the future.

I don’t recognise my town, they keep pulling it down
And building new student flats and expensive hotels and shops

The streets where I grew up are now filled with builders’ trucks
Replacing old with new, making profit for the few

I’m sitting on Arthur’s Seat, looking down at the lights of Leith
With the old town full of dreams, the dreams we’re losing

We’ve got trams that we don’t need and a massive debt to feed
The planners don’t give a thought to the damage that they brought

They sold our Meadowbank, it’s just money in the bank
When all the trees are gone, it won’t help anyone

Where are the doctors, where are the jobs
Where are the schools, the community hubs
Where are the homes for the workers to stay
It’s all gone upmarket, but not what they pay
